Kyle Schlesinger has published and lectured extensively on topics related to poetics, visual communication and artists’ books. His scholarly books include The Perishable Press Limited and Schablone Berlin (with Caroline Koebel). He earned a Ph.D. in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo for his dissertation Letterpress Printing in the Postmodern Era: Poetry, Media, Typography in 2006. From 2001-2005 he edited Kiosk: A Journal of Poetry, Poetics and Prose with Sasha Steensen and Gordon Hadfield. With Gregg Biglieri, he edited Bill Berkson’s Sudden Address (2007), and his annotated edition of Charles Olson at Goddard College is forthcoming from the Slought Foundation in 2008. With Craig Dworkin, he is editing a special edition of Journal of Artists’ Books in conjunction with an exhibition of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road manuscript at Columbia College in the autumn of 2008. He is also the co-editor of Mimeo Mimeo (a journal dedicated to artists’ books, the literary fine press, and the mimeo revolution) with Jed Birmingham and On (a journal of contemporaries writing) with Michael Cross and Thom Donovan. In addition to his scholarly activity, Schlesinger is a book artist, fine press publisher, and poet. His work has been exhibited in the John Hay Library at Brown University, Poetry Center at the University of Arizona, The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, and the Poetry Collection at the University at Buffalo. Recent artists’ books include A Book of Closings and Moonlighting. He is the author of Mantle (Atticus Finch, 2005 w/ Thom Donovan),Hello Helicopter (BlazeVox , 2007), Look (No Press, 2008), and The Pink (Kenning Editions, 2008). He teaches Communication Design and Creative Writing, and serves on the advisory board for Artists’ Books Online and the Western New York Book Arts Collaborative. He is currently working on a book of interviews with printers about the relaitonship between poetry and typography that will include talks with Lyn Hejinian, Alastair Johnston, Alan Loney, Tom Raworth, Mary Laird, Johanna Drucker, Emily McVarish, and Steve Clay.
